That's the state of my home right now. Ug!
(in case you want to know what I'm talking about, check out this post)
So today, the bookcases go back together. I've spent some time this week culling through my massive library of books...mostly on art and decorating...trying to reduce the many down to the few.
Luckily the blogs are full of beautiful inspiration pictures for decorating bookcases.
There's the "Messy-thrown-together-and-totally-interestesting " ones.
Been there...done that!
Then there's "Don't-touch-me! I-must-stay-perfectly-in-place" bookshelves.
Nope...that's not me.
There's the "Anal-retentive-color-coded-rainbow-arranged" bookcase.
and the "I-don't-like-any-color-in-my-bookcases-so-I'll-turm-the-spines-to-the-front" bookcase.
What??? Who does that?
Really????
These just aren't me.
I think I like a combination of books and other things.
(I love that these are painted behind like mine are.)
I like a more "lived-in" bookcase.
...a bookcase with a personality (preferably like mine!)
Maybe more like this
It's always an adventure. Who knows at this point where I'll be this evening when I'm done....if I'm done!....Do you ever get done?
I guess I can always put the left overs here...
That might just solve my fireplace dilemma!
Sally I know what you mean!! I am sure yours will look wonderful. I agree I like a shelf to be interesting and have varied textures and objects on them. YOur warm, Orange backdrop will be fun to put things in front of. Can't wait to see the finished product. Did you see my post today? Go and take a peek, thanks for the advice!! happy weekend friend,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the difference painting your shelves had made, no wait a minute, I can. Paint can do the most amazing things. Love the color lining the back...have fun arranging them! Love the examples, particularly the last ones, and I agree with you...who covers their books?!! Janell
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how you style them. I find that the ones I'm most attracted to are those that look effortlessly put together and not completely over thought.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are on the right track, I'm sure yours will be beautiful !
ReplyDeleteuh oh, I love color-coded bookcases.. does that mean what I think it means?!! Probably, because that first pic would drive me mental and as for backwards books.. why have them if you don't read them?
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle at a few of the photos. I once went to shower for my (ex) sister-in-law and was in the kitchen helping. I opened the dishwasher to place an item in it and, lo and behold, it was stuffed full of what looked like the kitchen counter "stuff" for the party duration. My friend and I were first horrified, but that quickly turned to howling laughter. Caught!

Love the last pic of all the books stuffed in the fireplace. Just the way we feel at the end of the day on either a design job or re-do of the shop, Your always left with just this "stuff" that doesn't go well anywhere. I'm with you on a combination in the bookcases. Can't wait to see your finished product! Mona
ReplyDeleteLove those last couple of inspiration images....and love the color of yours. We're moving soon and I've purged so many books.....it is amazing what one collects over the years, isn't it?!?
ReplyDeleteI love the way you break it all down on the book cases, I'll never look at one the same way as before ha ha!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Sally...fun post! Can you guess which one I would pick :) Looking forward to starting the kitchen...woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteGreat post...can't wait to see yours! Post soon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I like a collaboration of decor and books in a free for all state. It's just better that way...

ReplyDeleteI prefer an well-edited mix of books and accessories. Kind of effortlessly organized - not so easy to achieve. Can't wait to see your progress!
