Is the Bedspread Back?
Layers and layers are sort of the hallmark of most beautiful beds.
We layer the coverlets and duvet covers over bedskirts and top them with throws at the end of the bed and pile of the pillows.
It's lovely.

But what about the bedspread??
As a little girl, I had a bedspread. I remember one in pink chennile.
I remember my mother teaching me how to arrange the pillows so that when I turned the top of the spread back, the pillows would be perfectly tucked in. There was a lot of running from side to side as I recall.
Could that be why we switched to a comforter or a duvet....because they were easier to make up??
Perhaps...
But I'm loving the bedspread.

Horchow
I've had this one from Horchow in my favorites folder for quite some time.
Pretty in Pink, and loving the tufting and the little hem detail on this one.
Black and white toile is always a classic.
Can't you just feel the crisp Egyptian cotton of these spreads? I love the really tight ruffles, but what takes it over the top for me are the down comforters folded on the ends.
Burnout velvet brings a touch of elegance to this bedspread.
These are also from Horchow. I think they are actually the same spread as the first one in different material. Do you think it's imperative to have monogrammed pillows gracing the bedspread? I think almost every picture I found features a monogram. I guess great minds think alike!
I'm liking the trend back to the bedspead.....how about you?

Monday Morning Motivator
We've got a busy week of seeing new clients and starting new projects at Sally J. Designs. So this morning, I wanted to spend some time soaking up some inspiration. We'll be doing a bedroom project, some draperies, a traditional home with some mid-century leanings and a kitchen remodel to boot !
I'll be looking at an aqua color palette for the bedroom...
...Dramatic design and detailing for drapes in a tall entry...
....a little retro inspiration.....
...and homey, functional kitchen space.
Can't wait to get started!
Have a great week, everyone!

Sleeping well
I was shopping for beds for a client last week and I found this bed.
This pic doesn't do it justice, so look at it here.
It's silver leaf...pewter finish they say.
I am in deep love.
I have a new facination for spindle beds. I don't have a room that is big enough to do one of these justice, but I am really intrigued by all the different kinds of spindles I've seen on the beds I've found.......now I'm on a quest!
I love this bed too.
Spindles that look like little flying saucers.....do do doo do, do doo do do..(that's the theme song from Twilight Zone, in case you didn't recognize it)
The basic four-poster has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance since my mother's day. It's such a stately furniture piece. It says "I'm important" "Come lie here....Be Queen for a day".
Isn't this a beautiful bed?
Remember those little accordian squeeze toys your kids played with? That's what these spindles remind me of.
Or Spoolies....OK, I'm dating myself !
Any of you young ladies know what spoolies are?
It was such a step up from the pin-curl, and supposedly, they were easy to sleep on. (ha !)
Before the hand held hairdryer, I went to sleep in these and in the morning when I woke up, my hair was still damp.....perhaps a design flaw.
but I digress......geez.....
I really do love the graceful and sculptural quality of the spindle. So many kinds !
Twisties AND spoolies
I don't know about this one. It's like the planets all lined up on top of each other.
This is a statement piece if I've ever seen one.
The barley twist is classic English design.
But in PINK it takes on a modern, whimsical feel.
These posts become a beautiful, scalloped frame for the bed. I love the juxtapositon of the modern bed and color palette against the rustic, reclaimed floors. What a warm and rich room!
So how do you feel about the bed in front of the windows? That used to be a no-no, but I'm seeing it every where.
The straight line, shaker style spindles on this bed are balanced by the vibrant colors and patterns in this bedding.
Bunny Williams, always the style-setter, uses this antiqued, mirrored four-poster to anchor this beautiful room. Mirrored spindles.....only Bunny!
The feet are really pretty but they got cut off in the upload.
If you'd like to see them , go here.
I think the iron spindles are classically beautiful...sigh...
If you were designing a new bedroom, would you try to use a spindle bed? Which one of these beds did you fall in love with??

Whimsy Wednesday!
Whimsy - (hwĭm'zē) A fanicful or capricious idea...
Wednesday is humpday....middle of the week....weekend almost close enough to touch... and my favorite day of the week.
So I'm combining two of my favorite things...Whimsy and Wednesday in a weekly post that celebrates something that takes my breath away and sends me into designer daydream land.
I hope you'll be "taken away" with me on your own fanciful, whimsical Wednesday.
Here we go !
