Now I lay me down to sleep

One of my favorite clients is wanting a mini change in her bedroom.  We created new bedding and window treatments for this space when she moved into her new home 2 years ago.  We created a plan at that time for the ultimate finish of the room as budget would allow.  So now it's time to take out the heavy sleigh bed and replace it with an upholstered headboard.

Here's how the room looks now.  I don't have a pic of her beautiful drapes....no idea why???
Her bedding is so soft and romantic...yet, colorful....just what she wants.

This is a closeup of the fabrics we've used in her bedding.

This is the lovely linen print that we used on the soft shades, and we'll cover the headboard in it as well.
Isn't it pretty?

I've been putting together some images for her to see.  And because I'm an image freak, I continued to collect pictures long after I had decided what we would do.  I just kept finding really cool headboards!

Do you have any idea how many different styles of upholstered headboards there are?  Could I settle for a simple curved shape?

or a standard rectangle?

NO, my friends, I just kept looking.  So even though I have now aquired  "headboard overkill", I've got some great and inspiring images to show you.

I think I'll do this shape.

And add some ribbon trim.

What do you think?

  1. I kind of like a simple shape, you know me I am pretty edited!! I am sure what ever you do it will be gorgeous. Did you see Averills post on upholstered beds? it will give you some more eye candy. Odi et Amo blog!! Have a wonderful WEdnesday!1 I plan on getting outside in this nice weather we are having!! Kathysue

  2. It's amazing how many options there are out there! That last image with the pink ribbon?! To die for. And even with that the possibilities are endless!

  3. Sally, there are some amazing options here. I agree with Marija, the last one really does it for me. I have a soft spot for grosgrain ribbon and anything pink. Hope to see photos of the completed project - looks like a good one!!

  4. Sally I just read your comment I love your advice, if only I could. I guess I will have to settle for the fountain on my porch or the pool in my backyard. Only problem, the antique rocker is staring at me because it is completely stripped and awaiting its new dress. It is a little intimidating and I am not sure I am up for the task! Yikes. I will send you a picture.

  5. I think I love every headboard you featured! They are all statements, yet look sophisticated.

  6. I like a curve and nailhead trim. I want to get an upholstered headboard for my bedroom. I am waiting until we upgrade from queen size to king. We love to read in bed so I think this type of headboard would be ideal for us. Thanks for all the inspiration pics.

  7. I am crazy over all the shaped upholstered headboards, in great fabrics, popping up everywhere! They can be the star of the room...it's fun to get the opportunity to do an update to a room. Enjoy the process!

  8. Great blog! As a colleague in the same industry, I appreciate the great design, nice job with your featured selections!

  9. Choosing my own headboard shape has been almost traumatic since there are so many options. My new bed arrives next week. Fingers crossed it turns out well.

P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog!

  10. Love the headboards on images 8,10 and 11. I love the bedding style on 11, but different color.
    Great stuff, Sally!

  11. You have given me some great inspirations ~ beautiful everything.

You now have a new follower ~

  12. I think that its amazing what a difference a headboard can make or a stately bed and I choose Image number 5 the green headboard from House and Home. Stunning - great sleuthing - I know your clients bedroom is going to be fabulous. Love the mix of fabrics you chose.

  13. All I could think of is how challenging it is to upholster a curved head-board...and then to add ribbon trim---yikes! I can't wait to see the finished project. You are a can-do lady!!! Please, please post the final project. Let us see how you combined all the lovely prints in those soft shades!

  14. I love making fabric headboards. I'm sure hers will be beautiful !

  15. I think that will be awesome especially with that pattern...very romantic! Nice collection of pictures!
